November 6, 1922 ~ October 7, 2015

Lois Marie (Henry) Hodges, 92, of Normangee, Texas was born November 6, 1922, in Leon County to J.B. and Myrtle (Batson) Henry, and passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 in St. Louis, Missouri.

She lived most of her early and later life in Leon County. In 1943, she married Clyde Joseph Hodges in Normangee. While her husband worked for an oil seismology crew, the family moved frequently to many different locations in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Despite the frequent moves, she maintained a loving home for her husband and made sure her children were able to keep up with their studies despite the challenges of frequently changing schools. In 1960, they returned to Normangee, where all three children would graduate from Normangee High School.

She was a skilled seamstress and worked for the Alee Garment Factory in Madisonville for many years. Lois was also an accomplished quilt maker who created innumerable beautiful hand-stitched quilts, and took great pride in making sure that all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren had their own quilt that she specifically designed for them.

She was an avid fan of professional baseball and enjoyed watching the Houston Astros play. In her later life, she was able to attend both a Houston Astros and a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game, where she was presented a pennant by then Cardinals manager Tony La Russa.

For many years, she maintained the records for the Wealthy Cemetery. She was a longtime member of Harmony Baptist Church and loved attending services and fellowship with the church members. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Clyde Hodges; parents J.B and Myrtle Henry; three sisters, Corine (Henry) Walker, Maureen (Henry) Steinhauer and Dorothy (Henry) Blanc; and three brothers, Dearl Henry, Audie Henry, and Hubbard Ray Henry.

Survivors include her daughter Glynda (Hodges) Shultz and husband Woody of Normangee; son Doyle Hodges and wife Sheryl of St. Louis, Missouri; son Gary Hodges and Cindy Brent; seven grandchildren, Stephen Shultz and wife Shanda of The Woodlands, Christa (Shultz) Worley and husband Daryl of Waco, Jason Hodges of Houston, Greg Hodges and wife Darlene of Normangee, Kara Hodges and Keith Dunavent of Tacoma, Washington, Jonathan Hodges and wife Monica of Normangee, and Matthew Hodges and wife Amber of Normangee; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brenna and Marshall Shultz, Greerson Worley, Hayley and Conner Hodges, and Lillian Hodges; brother Billy Ross Henry and wife Lenora of Huntsville; sister-in-law, Mayge (Williams) Henry of Macy Community; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wealthy Cemetery Association, 37695 OSR, Normangee, Texas 77871.
