Vance Hamann

Vance Hamann, 91, of Bryan, TX formerly Hilltop Lakes, TX passed away Friday, February 21. Memorial services were held Monday, February 24, at the Hilltop Lakes Chapel at 1:30 pm.

Vance was born September 14, 1922 in Grant Park, IL to the parents of Martin and Melody (Morrison) Hamann. Vance was an athlete, an educator, loving husband, father and grandfather.. He was a star basketball player, in high school and college. He was noted as an Illinois State Top 50 Legends Basketball Player.

Vance enlisted into the Air Force during WWII and became a pilot training outside of Waco Texas. Upon his return from the war he completed his Bachelors in Education at Illinois State University. He became a school teacher, basketball coach then school Principle. He was married to Colleen Koch in Illinois. They were both educators for over 30 years. Vance completed a Masters of Education from Indiana University. He became Superintendent of Schools in Central Illinois consolidating school systems in Western, Tiskilwa, and Spring Valley Illinois improving the quality of education in these small towns for over 20 years

Vance was an avid golfer and upon retiring moved to Hilltop Lakes, TX, where late in life he met and married his second wife Rebecca White. He was very active in his church and was in years past a Deacon at churches both in Illinois as well as at Hilltop Lakes Chapel, Texas.

Vance was a proud member of the Lions Club. He received a 60 year member pin, was a Past President for multiple Lion’s Club chapters and served as a Lion’s Club District Governor for the State of Illinois.

Survivors include a son Micheal Vance Hamann and wife Rawna; daughter Terry Hamann and husband Alan Perlstein; a step-daughter Rhesa Boulton and husband Kenny; a step-son Dennis Westfall and wife Kelly; a brother Dale Hamann and wife Rita; three grandchildren Daniel, Charity, and Ashley; and two great grandchildren.
