Gregory Paul Mitchell

Gregory Paul Mitchell, “Greg”, age 54 passed away peacefully on February 14 at his home in Hilltop Lakes, Tx. Greg was born in Chadron, Nebraska on September ninth, 1968 and is preceded in death by parents Voni Ryerson and Chuck Mitchell. Greg, along with his family, moved to Sweeney Tx in 1978 where he excelled in baseball, basketball, and football. Some of his accomplishments at Sweeney High include two state championships in baseball. After high school graduation Greg furthered his education at Sam Houston State University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Photography.

After his college graduation, Greg settled in Normangee Tx where he worked for the State of Texas for over twenty plus years. He had recently retired and in his spare time enjoyed being an umpire and referee for high school and recreational teams, including Normangee Little Dribblers. He spent many hours on the road traveling because it was something that he loved. Many players and coaches would call him their favorite ref, and some liked to give him a hard time about calls he had made. Greg was also a wonderful cook and loved to experiment with new recipes and create his own dishes. He especially excelled at smoking the best brisket. Greg will be missed by many, especially his children whom he loved very much.

He is survived by his loving wife Deborah Mitchell; son Preston Mitchell; daughter Hayley Ross and husband Dylon; daughter Hannah Barker and husband Wilson; stepsons Christian and Chaitan. Greg is also survived by granddaughter Preslee Mitchell and grandsons Bentley and Clayson Ross and Hudson and Witton Barker. He is also survived by two brothers Charlie Mitchell and wife Kim; Clark Mitchell and wife Stacey and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Saturday February 18th at the Hilltop Lakes Community Center, 1 Hilltop Lodge Dr, Normangee, TX 77871 at 11:30 am. Flowers are welcome to be delivered to Hilltop Lake Community Center.
