Ayres Nelda Pierson

October 11, 1923 — November 3, 2016

Ayres Nelda Pierson age 93, of Normangee went to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 3, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

Nelda, as most knew her, was born October 11, 1923 to Sigmund and Ollie (Mathis) Crow in Normangee. She grew up in Normangee graduating from Normangee High School where she enjoyed playing in the band including the French horn and the xylophone. After graduation she went on to graduate from Baylor University.

She met and married the love of her life Andrew Luke Pierson III who preceded her in death in 2000. She and her husband spent several years in Houston but eventually made their way back to Normangee, to live, where they spent their time raising cattle.

Everyone that knew Nelda, knew that she was the local historian of the town of Normangee and even at 93 years of age was still working her cattle operation alone. Many stated that if they could be reincarnated, they would like to come back as one of Nelda’s cows because they were treated so well.

Nelda was also a very active and important member of the Normangee United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women as well as many other activities within the church. She also was very musically inclined and at one time gave piano lessons and also enjoyed playing the organ.

Survivors include her daughter Ayres Denise Pierson and husband Wesley Newman of College Station as well as two grandchildren Andrew Alonzo Newman and Ayres Rees Newman of College Station.

A Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 10:00am at Normangee United Methodist Church as well as a graveside service at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Sand Prairie Cemetery with Rev. Jim Jackson, pastor of Normangee United Methodist Church officiating.
