Arnold Louis Wieghat

Arnold Louis Wieghat was born to Henry & Lydia Wieghat on July 18, 1929 in Washington County, Texas. Arnold attended school and worked on the family farm throughout his childhood. Arnold later worked as a truck driver for Robert Lange in Brenham. In 1949, Arnold moved to Houston to work as a truck driver for Suburban Homes. Arnold was drafted into the US Army in 1951, and served in the Korean War until his Honorable Discharge in 1953. Upon return from his service, Arnold worked as a Switchman for Southern Pacific Railroad.

Arnold is survived by his son, Arnold “Gary” Wieghat of Centerville, his daughter and son-in-law, Terri & Rick Vourganas, and grandchildren, Nathan Floyd, Peter Vourganas, and Victoria Vourganas, of Houston. He is also survived by his brothers and sister-in-law, Henry Wieghat of Spring, Billy & Judy Wieghat of Flynn, sister and brother-in-law, Allyne & Erwin Emshoff of Brenham, sisters-in-law, Nilah Wieghat of Houston and Mae Ola Wieghat of Bedias, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Loved ones previously preceding Arnold are parents, Henry & Lydia (Finke) Wieghat of Brenham, brother and sister-in-law, Lonnie & Viola Wieghat of Brenham, brothers, Fritz Wieghat of Bedias, Melvin Wieghat of Houston, and sister and brother-in-law, Malinda & Lonnie Naumann of Brenham.

Arnold loved drag racing. He spent hours working on his car prior to taking it to the race track to challenge others who shared the love of racing. Win or lose each weekend, he lived for the thrill of racing the ¼ mile track every chance he had. When not at the race track, Arnold enjoyed gardening, and spending time with fellow veterans at VFW Post 581. When his time at the race track was done, Arnold spent many days visiting with other Post members, enjoying their company as they shared stories of their service to our country.

Since 2007, Arnold resided in Centerville with his son, Gary Wieghat. In Centerville, Arnold was able to enjoy the beauty of the countryside and wildlife of Central Texas until November 3, 2015, the day he was called to be with our Lord.

It was Arnold’s desire to be laid to rest at the Houston National Cemetery along with those who served our country who went before him. Funeral services for Arnold will be at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas. Arnold will be laid to rest after the services. Arnold’s final resting place at the cemetery will be provided to the family when complete.
