Leonard Ray Long, 69, of Normangee passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20, at Cozart Funeral Home at 2 pm. Memorial services will start at 3 pm. Brother Will Odom will preside over services. Services entrusted to Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.

Leonard Ray Long was born in Ash Flatt, Arkansas to Reverend Homer E. and Christeena (Sooter) Long. He was raised as a Methodist Preachers son and moved frequently from and back to Arkansas also Missouri, Texas, and Nebraska. Leonard graduated high school in Wood River Nebraska in 1963. Later that year he signed up for the Navy. He was Honorably Medically Discharged in late 1964, only being able to serve for a short time. Leonard met the love of his life and married Kim Rosetta Hansen in 1970. Leonard was very good with his hands and had various jobs butcher, welder and even a waiter. Leonard always provided for his family thru hard times taking any job he could find. In 1989 he was hired on with the US Postal Service where he retired in 2012. Leonard loved people and to tell a joke. He collected stamps, loved cooking, and sharing old cars with everyone.

Leonard was preceded in death by both his parents Rev. Homer and Mrs. Long; his in-laws Milton and Doris Hansen; and a daughter Channing Gail Elizabeth Long. Survivors include his wife of 43 years Kim Rosetta Long; a son Matthew Long of College Station; a daughter Rayna K. Long of Normangee; a sister Jane E. Opp of Normangee; two granddaughters Amber Long-Montague and Naomi Montague; sister and brother-in-laws Gail and William Schultz of Bryan, TX; Kevin and Sue Hansen of Hubbard, NE; Steven and Stephanie Hansen of Vicksburg, MS; Grandchildren of the heart Cacey Beladeux and Autum Roby of Elkhart, TX. In lieu of flowers make donations in memory of Leonard Long to Hospice Brazos Valley or the Normangee Food Bank.
