Jerry "Shot" Lionel Smith

May 17, 1937 — April 29, 2024

On April 29 at 12 noon, Jerry Shot Smith passed away at his home in Hilltop Lakes with his wife and other family members by his side.

He was born on May 17, 1937 in Pride, Louisiana, the son of W.G. Smith and Elva Valentine Meyers, both deceased. “Shot”, as most people knew him, had one sister, Patsy Smith Tucker; also deceased. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sheila Watson Smith, A son, Darryl Smith (Sandra), and Six Grandchildren, and one great grandson, all of Tucson, AZ. Also brother-in-law Paul Watson (Nancy) four nephews and one niece.

Shot was a member of FMC of Normangee.

Before retiring to Normangee in 2005, he was a farrier on the thoroughbred race tracks and many thoroughbred house farms. He was excellent at his trade, extending the careers of many race horses with corrective shoeing, and kept several horses from being put down due to foundering. Later in life he took up knife making. He made lots of skinning knives and machetes, and mastered making Damascus steel. He loved to compete whether in tournament bass fishing, coon hunting contest, or shooting skeet, he seemed to excel at them all. Shot never met a stranger and loved to shoot the breeze with whoever stopped by.

What else can be said about this special man.
