George Rick, age 96, passed away in Bryan, Texas on August 8, 2022.  George was born to George and Winifred Rick in Memphis, Tennessee.  Like so many others of his generation, George joined the Navy as soon as he graduated High School, eager to defend America.  After the War, he graduated from the University of Tulsa and worked for Texaco, as an accountant, for 38 years.  In 1988, he retired and moved to Hilltop Lakes, TX with his wife Rita and was very active in the Hilltop Lakes Volunteer Fire Department.

George (“Uncle Sonny”) loved his family and friends and was known for his willingness to help others.  At different times throughout his life, he coached football for Mt. Carmel grade school in Houston.  He will be remembered as “Coach” to many.  He also enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics bicycle racing, where he won several medals.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Rita, and sons, George (“Jordy”) and Arthur, and daughter-in-law, Paulina.  He is survived by his daughters, Maureen (John) and Carol (Mike); daughter-in-law, Eileen; sister, Muriel; grandchildren Scott (Julie) and Hollie; great-grandsons, Henry, Will and Charlie; numerous nephews and nieces and friends.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, TX.  His remains will be laid to rest in the Houston National Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022 at 2:15 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, George would deeply appreciate donations in his remembrance to: Hilltop Lakes Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 1242, Hilltop Lakes, TX 77871 https://hilltoplakes.com/member-resources/ems-fire-department/  Cremation services are in the care of Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.
