July 16, 1916 ~ December 1, 2021

Born in: Florance, Alabama
Resided in: Madisonville, Texas

Elizabeth (affectionately known as Nanny) Prestwood was born in Florence, Alabama on July 15, 1916, to parents Mary and Horace Buchanan.  She died December 1, 2021, in Madisonville, Texas.  Her family moved to Houston, Texas where she was raised with 3 brothers, Charles, Horace Jr., and Arthur Lee Buchanan and 1 sister, Eloise Buchanan.

She was employed in food service and received her food handling certificate at the University of Houston.  She worked for the Houston Independent School District for 25 years as a dietician, she then retired, and then went back and worked an additional 8 years at Citizen’s General Hospital before becoming a full-time nanny to 21 grandchildren.

She met the love of her life, Henry Clay Prestwood while attending church at Lindale Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.  The married November 21, 1936, and had four children, Henry Carroll, Mary Ann, Judy Elizabeth, and Diane Marie.  She was an avid quilter and crocheter, leaving many family members with keepsake handmade items to treasure.  She was an exceptional seamstress, sewing for all the family and making many things without a pattern.  Nanny always saw the bright side of life, had a smile and encouraging word for everyone and was first to volunteer to help anyone in need.  For her, everything (as she often said) was Okay Dokay Dominokay.

The constant in Nanny’s life was her love of Jesus.  If you were in her presence for more than a few minutes (including the Domino’s Pizza deliveryman waiting on change) she would ask if you knew Jesus as your savior.  This prevailed into her final days at the nursing home.  She truly lived her life of faith, witnessing with sincerity and dedication.

She is preceded in death by all her siblings, her husband Henry and a daughter, Judy.

She is survived by three children, Henry Carroll Prestwood (Polly) of Flynn, Texas, Mary Ann Seiter, and Diane Marie Prestwood of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren, Lynne Barton (Lance), Kelly Conley (Rick), David Seiter, Jr. (Diana), Jeff Seiter, Arthur Rodriguez, Jr., Angela Lisa Richardson; eleven great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
