Born in: Bartlesville, Oklahoma
Resided in: Hilltop Lakes, Texas

Diana Dale Johnson (Grandma Dee), 84, of Hilltop Lakes, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2024, at her home with her children by her side.  She was born on April 25,1940, to Orval and Dale Bolton in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  She was a proud graduate of Oklahoma State University School of Education.  Her sorority sister and Jerry Johnson’s fraternity brother introduced them which resulted in their first date.  They were married in 1961 and celebrated 62 years of marriage.  She taught first grade in Bartlesville, Mesquite, Texas, and Lawton, Oklahoma.

She was an amazing gardener and was named Yard of the Month multiple times in Bartlesville and Hilltop Lakes.  You could find her working in her garden most days – she could make anything grow!!  She also loved playing bridge – her purse was always heavy carrying around her bridge winnings since they played for quarters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joel, and her sisters, Sidney and Anita June.  She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her children, Karla DeSousa (Jack) of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Craig Johnson of Hilltop Lakes, and Michelle Henson (Carter) of Willis, Texas; her brothers Keith Bolton of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Don Bolton of Hilltop Lakes; and her grandchildren Taryn and Brandon Johnson; Tony DeSousa; and Michael, Sean, Gregory, Annie, Reese Kathryn and Blake Henson.  She is also survived by Shasta, her 30-year old cockatoo that we all know Grandma Dee loved the most.

The family will have a come & go Celebration of Life at their Hilltop home, 65 Golfview Drive, on Saturday, June 29 from 1:00-3:00.  Please come wearing something floral or bright in memory of Diana and her bright flowers and personality.  Be prepared to get cuttings of some of her favorite flowers from her garden especially her Peggy Martin rose.

She was welcoming to anyone in need – and made lasting impressions on many lives.

She was loved and will be forever missed by all who have met her.  Please plant a tree or some flowers in your yard and think of her.  She would have loved that since just last month she said one of her biggest regrets in life is that she didn’t plant more trees. Express condolences with the family at www.Cozartfuneralhome.com.

Guestbook

  1. Diana was one of the first people I met at Hilltop Lakes, 4 years ago. I was with my sister and brother-in-law on a Paragon Gambling trip. Jerry told her I was building a new home and would soon be moving to the hill. She immediately asked me if I played Bridge! I said yes, but I wasn’t very good! From that brief conversation we became friends and gardening buddies! And then I met her Brother…..,,

  2. Michelle and Carter took us up to see and meet her Mom & Dad. We had such a Great time
The Best part was seeing and walking her Beautiful Garden.❤️❤️❤️

  3. What a beautiful tribute. Sending warm thoughts as you and your family begin your journey with thoughts of your beautiful mom in your hearts..”A rose by any other name is still a rose.”

  4. My parents loved Diana so much. They had so much fun with their travels and fun. I remember staying at the house one time when I was sick and couldn’t fly home with the rest of the family. I recall Shasta being very verbal and the yummy okra stew or something along those lines. The Johnsons were some of my parents very best friends when they lived in Oklahoma and I loved that they stayed in touch when everyone moved South. Much love to all of the family during this time. xoxo, Michele Butler (Duding)

  5. Such a beautiful tribute to an absolutely beautiful woman inside and out. I first met Diana and Jerry back in 2005 when we moved across the street from them in Hilltop Lakes. Such an amazing couple and such wonderful neighbors. I loved watching Diana working in her garden while listening to her talk radio station. I cherish the conversations we had in her garden talking about each plant. When all work was done for the day, I could always join them both on their front porch for more conversation and laughter. I miss her so much already. When I look across the street I can still view her beautiful garden but not her large floppy straw hat. I know Jerry, Michelle, Karla, Craig and all family members will miss her dearly (especially her beautiful smile) and cherish the memories they shared together, I know I will. I vision her now sitting on a bench in the heavenly gardens viewing all the beautiful flowers and plants in amazement. Rest in peace my sweet friend.
